How We Built an RV Park Behind Our Motel
Who We Are
We are a couple who always dreamed of owning our own business—something we could build together and grow over time.
Before getting into hospitality, I worked as a software engineer. My job was all about solving problems, planning ahead, and improving systems. My wife comes from a finance background, which has been a strong support in how we plan and run the business.
When we bought Royal Palms Motel, we didn’t come from a traditional hospitality background. We learned everything step by step, by listening to guests, fixing issues, and improving little by little.
How the RV Park Idea Started
After purchasing the motel, we noticed something interesting. Many guests traveling through New Orleans had RVs. Some stayed nearby and others stopped by to ask a simple question:
“Do you have RV hookups or space for RVs?”
At first, the answer was no.
But behind the motel, we had unused land. Instead of letting it sit empty, we started thinking—what if we built an RV park there?
Building the RV Park From Scratch
This RV park wasn’t something that already existed. We built it from the ground up.
That meant planning everything:
Where each RV site should go
Installing water, sewer, and electric hookups
Making sure big RVs could easily enter and park
Adding lighting, security, and clear rules
We kept things simple and practical. This isn’t a luxury resort—it’s a clean, safe, and well-managed RV park designed for real travelers and working professionals.
Opening and Welcoming Our First Guests
When we opened the RV park, we weren’t sure what to expect. The response was better than we imagined.
Guests liked that:
We’re only 15 minutes from the French Quarter
Pricing is fair and straightforward
The area is quiet and secure
Management is always nearby if help is needed
Many guests stayed longer than planned, and some have already returned.
What We’ve Learned So Far
Building and running an RV park has taught us a lot:
RV travelers value honesty and safety
Clear rules help everyone enjoy their stay
You don’t need luxury—just reliability and cleanliness
Listening to guests helps us improve every day
Looking Ahead
Today, Royal Palms is both a motel and an RV park, built with hard work, patience, and guest feedback.
What started as a simple idea—using extra space behind our motel—turned into something we’re truly proud of.
If you’re traveling through New Orleans and looking for a simple, fair, and well-located place to stay with your RV, we’d be happy to welcome you.
